Samajwadi Party's 2024 Lok Sabha Surge Reshapes UP Politics

The Samajwadi Party (SP) registered its best-ever performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, securing 37 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh and emerging as the single-largest party in the state. This significant victory, as part of the INDIA bloc alongside the Indian National Congress, substantially reduced the Bharatiya Janata Party's 2019 seat tally in the crucial state. Led by Akhilesh Yadav, the party achieved a notable increase in its vote share, driven by a social engineering strategy dubbed "PDA" (Pichda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak). While celebrating this Lok Sabha success, the SP recently faced setbacks in subsequent by-elections, losing key Muslim and Dalit-dominated seats. Looking ahead, Akhilesh Yadav has confirmed the alliance with Congress will continue for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
